Leipzig, 1859. Bernhard Tauchnitz. Издательский переплет, сохранность хорошая, на обложке потертости и пятна. The fundamental theme of the novel is the controversy between Catholic and Reformist faiths. The priestly community comes under menace from the new doctrines as the Protestant Reformation takes hold. Story revolves around the authors imaginary locality, abbey of Kennaquhair. The occult and the humorous are ingeniously amalgamated. "The Monastery" was one of the best selling books.
